The Ministry of Defense's Removal and Mines Authority today (Sunday) destroyed hundreds of kilograms of Syrian ammunition from the Six Day War.
The ammunition depot, which included mortar shells, spray grenades and shrapnel, was discovered in an old Syrian bunker in the Golan Heights about two months ago.
The ammunition explosion was carried out for safety reasons, so that it would not be necessary to transport the old ammunition on the roads.
During the explosions, roads and areas in the Golan Heights were closed.
The destruction of Syrian ammunition is the final operation of clearing the minefield in the area of Mitzpe Gadot and the customs house junction.
The area clean of mines and falls will soon be returned to the public and will allow the thousands of visitors who visit the area each year, to walk in it safely.

The Syrian outpost at Mitzpe Gadot "El Murtafa" was one of the most fortified outposts of the Syrian army in the Golan before the Six Day War, and from there the Syrian soldiers fired at the settlements of the Hula Valley.
Thousands of mines from the fighting period are still scattered in the fields surrounding the post, which today serves as a memorial site for the Alexandroni Brigade.
