Iran: "Western Countries Withdrew From Their Demands" | Israel today

2022-01-03T13:07:39.384Z

A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced progress on issues in the context of his country's call for a nuclear deal with Iran • "The ball is in the other side's court," the Iranian clarified.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Said Khatibzadeh announced today (Monday) that his Western countries have withdrawn from some of their demands as part of the quest to reach new understandings that will allow his country to return to the nuclear deal with Iran.

"If we have a common document to work with it is because Western countries have withdrawn from their maximum demands. Now there is realism among Western representatives realizing that they can not demand beyond the agreement in the context of nuclear issues and give less than the removal of sanctions," Khatibazda explained.

"We have made progress in four areas of verification, guarantees, sanctions removal and nuclear issues; in some areas more, in some less," the spokesman stressed, adding that "there has been little progress in areas related to the other side's commitments. This is why the ball is in the other side's court."

Meanwhile, the head of the Iranian delegation Ali Bagari Kanyi is already in the Austrian capital and is expected to start discussions in the afternoon (local time).

The latest round was marked by accusations by the Iranians against Western countries, led by France, which on Friday publicly condemned Iran after launching a ballistic missile "for research purposes" in the wake of negotiations with the West.

"These activities are even more unfortunate because they come as we move forward in talks," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The United States and Germany also criticized the act.

In Jerusalem, the dialogue between the delegations of the West and the Islamic Republic of Iran is being followed with concern and vigilance.

Foreign Minister Yair Lapid noted this morning in a press briefing that "Israel does not automatically oppose any agreement with Iran, but an agreement that is not good."

He further noted that Israel is in a "war of excavations" in his words with the aim of introducing improvements in the agreement.

Among the countries that signed the original nuclear agreement from 2015 are Iran, Russia, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the United States (indirectly).
