The city of Paris needs you!

On D-13 of his fifth Night of Solidarity, he lacks nearly a thousand volunteers to carry out this operation to count the homeless.

During a whole evening, officials, elected officials and volunteers meet the homeless to assess the number of people on the street and better understand their profiles and their needs, in order to adapt emergency and social measures.

This year, the operation is to be held on the evening of January 20.

But only a few thousand people are currently registered, while the City needs twice as much.

Team leader, field volunteers: all profiles are sought.

"Registrations are a little less dynamic compared to previous years", remarks Léa Filoche, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of solidarity.

They are open to over 18s until January 17 on the nuit-solidarite.paris.fr site.

Volunteers affected by the Covid in the meantime will, of course, be able to unsubscribe.

2,785 homeless identified in 2021

"We are short of volunteers, but it is also because we have increased the number of teams in anticipation of a few last minute withdrawals that we risk being confronted with with the Covid crisis," explains Léa Filoche.

The current health situation complicates things a bit.

It is not easy for people today to project within 15 days.

"

The Night of Solidarity makes it possible to assess more precisely the number of homeless people and to refine public policies accordingly, such as the opening of accommodation places.

Last year, 2,785 homeless were counted.

That is 23% less than in 2020. "The State has opened many accommodation places in the meantime," says Léa Filoche.

Hopefully this trend will be confirmed again in 2022. "

This year, the operation will also be an opportunity to pool the information collected with the census of homeless people, as part of the general population census of INSEE.

In 2022 the operation also takes a more metropolitan turn since other cities of Seine-Saint-Denis and Hauts-de-Seine have decided to follow the Parisian example: Aubervilliers, Bobigny, Bondy, Courbevoie, Gagny, Issy- les-Moulineaux, Romainville, Rosny-sous-Bois, Rueil-Malmaison and Saint-Denis.
