The Secretary of the Central Committee of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement “Fatah,” Major General Jibril Rajoub, affirmed that Syria’s presence outside the Arab League is “a disgrace to the Arabs,” especially as it is a founding state of the Arab League and it must regain its membership.
During a press conference held at Al-Sham Hotel in Damascus today, Rajoub made it clear that his visit to Damascus and the accompanying delegation will constitute a real breakthrough for formulating the Palestinian situation in light of the unprecedented escalation of the Israeli occupation to end the Palestinian cause.
Rajoub referred to a “close visit by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Syria,” expressing his thanks to the Syrian people and leadership for its firm stances toward the Palestinian cause, despite the difficult circumstances it went through during the past years, and for the exceptional care and hospitality of the Palestinians and their treatment as Syrian citizens in all fields.
Rajoub indicated that this is the most difficult stage in the history of the Palestinian cause due to the intensification of the Israeli occupation’s attempts to Judaize Palestine, end the national situation in Jerusalem and launch an unprecedented settlement campaign in all the occupied territories, stressing the Palestinian leadership’s adherence to its principled positions in establishing a sovereign Palestinian state and the right of refugees to return and resist occupation By all means.
The press conference was attended by Rawhi Fattohi and Ahmed Helles, members of the Central Committee of Fatah movement, and the Palestinian ambassador in Damascus, Samir Al-Rifai.
