Geneva-Sana
Russia and the United States ended their negotiations on the file of security guarantees, which lasted more than seven hours in Geneva today.
The Russian-American negotiations were held behind closed doors at the headquarters of the US mission in Geneva.
The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin, while US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman headed the American delegation to the negotiations.
On the 17th of last December, Russia published two draft agreements, one with the United States and the other with NATO, which include provisions on mutual security guarantees in Europe, including the non-deployment of medium and short-range missiles in the areas of access to the enemy's territory, and the alliance's abandonment of continuing its eastward expansion.
Ryabkov had announced before the start of negotiations this morning that Moscow is seeking, through its bilateral talks with Washington, to test its ability to take responsible decisions at this difficult time for European security.
