The London Metropolitan Police Headquarters, Scotland Yard, announced today (Tuesday) that it is considering opening a criminal investigation into a party held by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at his official residence at 10 Downing Street in London, allegedly violating corona regulations.
According to media reports in the UK, Johnson and his wife attended the party.
"The metropolitan police are aware of reports of alleged violations of the Corona regulations on Downing Street in May and are in contact with cabinet members on the matter," the Scotland Yard statement said.
An exposed e-mail containing the names of guests at a party held on May 20, while the country is under strict Corona restrictions.
The announcement was made and published in the country's media.
The suspicion now is that the Prime Minister's Residence hosted several multi-participant parties while the citizens of the country were forbidden to congregate in a similar manner.
The chairman of the Labor Party, Kier Stammer, expressed support for opening an investigation into the matter.
His deputy, Angela Reiner, called on Prime Minister Johnson to appear before Parliament and answer their questions regarding the parties held at the Prime Minister's Residence.
