Graefelfing and Bielefeld separate more than 600 kilometers.
The eighth largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia has 25 times as many inhabitants as the Würmtal community.
Nevertheless, the two municipalities have one thing in common: They are participating in the Smart Analytics pilot project.
Graefelfing
- The municipality of Graefelfing is continuing on its way to promote its town center and to counteract the threat of vacancies. The data acquisition now follows the web conference and the Würmtal card. Funded by the federal program “Future-proof inner cities”, movement data is collected anonymously in public space: walking routes, offers and locations visited, as well as the respective length of stay. The technology from Munich-based Ariadne Maps GmbH, a spin-off of the Technical University, is used. Their devices, so-called surveyors, recognize signals emitted by smartphones in compliance with data protection law. This shows, for example, how many people are in Bahnhofstrasse at certain times, how often and for how long people stop in front of a shop window and which shops are visited. "It's about,to get reliable data in the communal environment ”, says Sebastian Deppe from BBE Handelsberatung, which has been supporting the community for a long time in its endeavors to make Bahnhofstrasse lively. "The data enable us to tackle many other topics in a supportive manner." Deppe: "We cannot solve all of Graefelfing's problems, but we can tackle different things with the data."but tackle different things with the data. "but tackle different things with the data. "
Graefelfing is the smallest of five municipalities
The project is scheduled to run for four years.
In addition to Graefelfing as the smallest and Bielefeld as the largest municipality, Bernau near Berlin, Prenzlau and Fellbach in Baden-Württemberg also participate.
The costs for Graefelfing alone amount to 315,000 euros, of which 75 percent are covered by federal funding.
The community's share is 78,700 euros.
The main committee of the municipal council gave its place on Tuesday with 7: 3 votes.
“There is a good chance of gaining knowledge with this funded project,” said Mayor Köstler.
Criticism came from Katharina Weber (Greens), among others: It is an insane volume of data that is being accumulated. ”Anette Kitzmann-Waterloo (SPD) suggested asking people in the queue in front of the post office about their shopping behavior.
And Petra Schmid (CSU) complained: “I lack the practical benefits.
Just because the Ministry of the Interior is wasting money, I cannot agree. ”However, the majority joined their parliamentary group colleague Florian Brenner, who said:“ I am promoting people to try it.
The financial commitment is manageable. "
