An abandoned baby was found in an egg crate in Siberia, in a 20-degree frost. She was found on Friday by five boys, on a secluded road near the town of Sosnowiec on the outskirts of Novosibirsk. She was taken to a hospital by the parents of one of the boys, and her condition is well defined. Police are searching for her mother and have opened a criminal investigation on suspicion of murdering a minor.

Dmitry Litvinov, the father of one of the boys, told NGS newspaper that the five friends were marching during the Orthodox Christmas holiday. "It was already dark, they lit up with their phones, looked at what was in the box," Litvinov said. He said they discovered a baby girl, who was left with some kind of rag as a towel and a bottle. He and his wife Anna were called to the scene by their son, Renat, and they drove the baby in a car to a hospital.

The fear was that the baby, who was apparently three days old when she was found, would suffer from cold sores and would not survive.

The district health ministry said that upon her arrival at the hospital, a doctor quickly examined her and warmed her as he gently rubbed her arms and legs.

The baby turned pink and was found healthy.

She was later transferred to a children's hospital, where she is currently being treated.

Anna Litvinov told NGS that she and many of the staff at the hospital cried when they heard that the baby was in good condition.

The couple, who already have three mothers, want to adopt her, but they will have to wait and see if no other family member is found.

But even if they start the adoption process, they will have to provide documents and take special courses before they get approval to accept it.
