Christian Köning is the new chairman of the Munich SPD.

That was decided at the party conference on Saturday.

The 33-year-old prevailed with 70 to 53 votes against city council colleague Christian Vorländer.

The new executive team is completed by city councilors Lena Odell, Mickey Wenngatz, Mayor Verena Dietl and Anno Dietz.

Munich – Saturday was a new start.

The CDU had elected the federal party conference and digitally Friedrich Merz as the new chairman.

The Munich SPD also had a party conference, and there, too, a new chairman was digitally appointed: City councilor Christian Köning prevailed with 70 to 53 votes against his city council colleague Christian Vorländer.

The CDU is daring to make a fresh start after the election defeat, and times were better for the Munich comrades too.

The local elections put the city council faction in third place behind the Greens and the CSU, and although the SPD became the strongest force in the federal elections and provided the chancellor, this trend did not catch on in Munich.

This is one of the reasons why the signs in the Bavarian state capital point to a new beginning.

New boss Christian Köning: "We take care of everyone in the city"

"We need a vision for the future," said Köning in his introductory speech.

The SPD is fighting at all levels to keep the city strong.

No matter whether on the housing market, with the traffic turnaround or with the topics of climate protection and digitization.

Therefore, a strong SPD is still needed.

“We make sure that everyone can afford Munich.

We take care of everyone in town.”

Christian Vorländer thanked for the fair competition.

He is not devastated now, but will tackle the next tasks with energy.

"Let's send a signal of unity and unity from this party conference." The 48-year-old then ran successfully as an assessor.

Mayor Verena Dietl, the city councilors Micky Wenngatz and Lena Odell as well as Anno Dietz were elected as deputies.

In the case of the Munich SPD, in addition to state head Florian von Brunn and Roland Fischer, these were also the long-standing chairwoman Claudia Thousand.

The 57-year-old member of the Bundestag had been chairwoman of the SPD in Munich since 2014 and had been a member of the board for a total of 20 years.
