The fifth wave of the epidemic broke out in Hong Kong. First, Omicron invaded the community at the end of December last year, resulting in groups such as Wangyuelou, dancing, and foreign domestic helpers. The virus was then divided into multiple channels, breaking through the quarantine screening and entering the community, which eventually led to Kwai Chung Village. The outbreak spread rapidly to Tsuen Wan and Tsing Yi.
At the same time, the community was attacked by the Delta variant virus. The staff and customers of the Causeway Bay pet store were infected one after another. Animal and environmental samples were close to the virus. The authorities decided to cull more than 1,000 hamsters in Hong Kong.
"Hong Kong 01" organizes the daily mandatory testing locations, makes map animations of outbreak points, and reviews the spread of the fifth wave of the epidemic.
1. The crew led to the Mochizuki Tower and the dancing foreign domestic helper group
The fifth wave of the epidemic was caused by a crew member who illegally walked out of the community during the home isolation period at the end of December, and someone who infected the family members who lived with them during the quarantine period, respectively, resulting in groups such as Mochizukilou, dancing and foreign domestic helpers, resulting in a total of 68 cases. It also caused a large-scale latent transmission in Tuen Mun. The district was mobilized for testing, and residents lined up in long queues.
The epidemic even spread to the officialdom. Secretary of Home Affairs Xu Yingwei and other officials attended the birthday banquet of Hong Weimin, deputy to the Hong Kong People's Congress. Because someone at the party was later diagnosed and had to go to the quarantine center or home isolation, the incident is still fermenting.
2. Housewives of Pakistani descent were 'leaked'
The virus quickly split into multiple paths, breaking through quarantine screening and flowing into the community.
A 43-year-old Pakistani housewife was infected in a quarantine hotel, but was "leaked" and returned to the community to be diagnosed, infecting many relatives and friends, and vertical transmission occurred in her residence, which triggered a large outbreak in Kwai Chung Village. Nearly 300 cases have been recorded in the village. There have been more than 180 patients in Yat Kwai House, and it has spread to many housing estates in Tsuen Wan and Tsing Yi, and there is no sign of containment.
3. Delta Flanking
The community was also attacked by the Delta variant virus. The pet shop staff and customers of Little Boss in Causeway Bay became sick one after another. Animal and environmental samples were close to the virus. The authorities decided to cull more than 1,000 hamsters in Hong Kong.
According to the statistics of the Centre for Health Protection, the fifth wave of the epidemic has caused 418 infections in the four major transmission clusters as of January 25.
