The Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced that the joint exercises between Russia and Belarus to be launched next month under the name “Union Packages 2022” are defensive and do not pose a threat to Europe and neighboring countries.
The First Deputy Minister of Defense of Belarus Viktor Golevich said in a statement today, reported by Sputnik agency, that these exercises will be held from February 10 to 20, and will allow to improve the mechanism of joint use of defense and test the readiness and ability of forces assigned to perform tasks according to their intended purpose.
The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces, Pavel Moraviko, announced earlier that a sudden examination of the forces and means of reaction of the state of the union between Russia and Belarus would be carried out.
The Russian Ministry of Defense had announced that these exercises will be in two phases, the first until February 9, where the redeployment and formation of groups of forces on the territory of Belarus will take place in the shortest possible time and the implementation of the tasks of protection and defense of important government and military facilities and the protection of state borders in the airspace. The readiness and ability of the air defense forces and shifting equipment to perform the tasks of protecting important installations.
As for the second phase of the testing process, it will be during the period from the 10th of next February to the 20th of the same month, where a joint maneuver entitled “Union Packages 2022” will be conducted in the framework of which a hypothetical external aggression will be thwarted and repelled, as well as training in combating terrorism and protecting the interests of an allied country.
