After an argument, a man in Bayreuth grabbed a knife on Thursday morning and attacked his wife and sister-in-law.

In the end he turns the gun on himself.

Bayreuth – A family dispute escalated early Thursday morning in Bayreuth in Upper Franconia.

A man (40) attacked his wife and her sister with a kitchen knife.

He severely wounded her before turning the knife on himself.

The attacker did not survive.

The two women were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

At around 2 a.m., attentive neighbors alerted the police via the Bayreuth/Kulmbach integrated control center.

They had heard screams for help from an apartment in an apartment building on Himmelskronstrasse, writes the Upper Franconia police in a press release.

When the officers arrived at the scene with several patrol cars, several people were already gathering in front of the building.

The two women had fresh cuts on their faces and necks, it said.

Her attacker - the husband of the 35-year-old victim - and a Russian citizen, had meanwhile barricaded himself in the bedroom of the apartment.

Since the police officers were not sure at this point whether other family members were in danger, they stormed the apartment as quickly as possible.

When they opened the bedroom door, they discovered the 40-year-old, who had inflicted serious stab wounds on his upper body with a knife.

His attempt to take his own life was successful when all resuscitation measures in the hospital failed.

Bayreuth: Both victims are currently in mortal danger

His 35-year-old wife and her 29-year-old sister were also immediately taken to a clinic by the ambulance service.

"Both are currently being treated in intensive care and are in mortal danger," the press release continues.

During the attack, the father of the 35-year-old and the three children of the family were still in the apartment.

However, they were unharmed.

His attack was probably only aimed at the two women.

In the meantime, the Bayreuth criminal police have taken over the case.

According to initial findings, a dispute between the three people involved was the trigger for the outbreak of violence.

Police believe the man stabbed his victims with intent to kill.

However, when they were able to escape, he locked himself in the bedroom and inflicted fatal injuries on himself.
