Despite the unusual Christmas market, the club didn't just want to rest.

Instead, he raised funds for local charities through other channels.

Erding – The raffle of the Rotary Club (RC) Erding is one of the permanent and popular institutions at the Christmas market in the old town.

Due to Corona, this was canceled for the second time in a row in 2021.

The Rotarians were already deep in the preparations for the draw.

The volunteers could have made it easy for themselves and put their hands on their laps.

But the RC also wanted to help, especially in difficult times.

"We have asked our members and our loyal tombola sponsors to make donations," reported President Christian Otto.

"We wanted to do at least one small campaign, even if we knew that less money would come in." The response was overwhelming.

Rotary Club finds: Children have been particularly neglected in the pandemic

At the same time, the club called on the development associations of all elementary, middle and secondary schools in the city area to nominate projects worthy of support.

"We made a conscious decision to go to schools because we believe that the children in particular have been neglected during the pandemic," says Otto.

Here, too, the feedback was very encouraging.

Five organizations have responded.

The Katharina Fischer School would like to offer a swimming course and a music and dance project.

The Carl-Orff elementary school in Altenerding wants to make school life more attractive and buy educational jumping games for the playground.

Rotary Club collects donations: Two projects possible for Herzog-Tassilo-Realschule

The middle school in Altenerding offers in-depth careers advice so that none of the graduates is left behind.

It's not just about meaningful applications, but also about finding the right job or training first.

The middle school at Lodererplatz in Erding has a film project in mind with students.

The result should be an image clip.

The Herzog-Tassilo-Realschule submitted two projects: a first-aid course for all pupils and a workshop against drug use for the eighth grade.

Equal money for everyone: Each school receives 2,500 euros in donations.

On the other hand, there was 12,500 euros that the Rotarians had raised in donations.

"In view of the great ideas, we didn't have to think long, but decided to give equal consideration to all projects," said the RC President.

In front of the secondary school, he handed over checks for 2,500 euros each to the school management and representatives of the development associations.

This year the Rotarians hope that the Christmas market can take place again on Kleiner Platz and Schrannenplatz, and with it the raffle.

According to Otto, this yields significantly higher proceeds - money that can then be used for charitable purposes, especially in the region.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.
