In the name of President Bashar al-Assad, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, congratulated the new President of Chile, Gabriel Boric Font.
This came during the Chilean President's reception of the presidents, ministers and representatives of countries who attended to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the president, which took place yesterday at the headquarters of the Chilean National Congress in the city of Valparaíso, during which the formation of the new Chilean government, which included 24 ministers, was also announced.
Ambassador Sabbagh conveyed to President Borich the greetings of President al-Assad and his wishes for success in performing his new mission and his aspiration to expand and develop bilateral relations between the two countries to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.
For his part, President Borich expressed his sympathy with the Syrian people and his affection for the human suffering they suffered as a result of the war during the past years, expressing his country's readiness to help mitigate its effects.
It is noteworthy that President Burić, founder and head of the "Social Convergence" party, managed to win the second round of the presidential elections that took place on November 22 last year by a large margin of the vote by obtaining 55.87 percent.
In addition, Ambassador Sabbagh, during his stay in Chile, presented to a group of Syrian expatriates at the headquarters of the Syrian Club in the capital, Santiago, the developments of the situation in Syria, stressing that Syria was able to thwart the conspiracy that was hatched against it thanks to the solidarity of the Syrians and their support for their leadership and army.
Sabbagh also touched on the catastrophic effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States of America and the European Union on the Syrian people, which were reflected in various aspects of their living lives, pointing out that the benefits of the coming period are the elimination of terrorist outposts, the end of foreign occupation and the liberation of the remainder of Syrian lands, along with reconstruction. And that this requires the support and assistance of all Syrians.
Sabbagh stressed the great importance that the Syrian government attaches to the Syrian expatriates and takes care of their affairs by enacting laws that serve them and strengthening the role played by Syrian embassies in providing necessary services to Syrians abroad.
In turn, the members of the Syrian community expressed their solidarity with their homeland and their confidence in the measures taken by the state to restore security and stability on the entire Syrian territory and the efforts it is making to provide basic services and rehabilitate infrastructure, stressing their readiness to support these efforts and provide what can be done in this field.
