A wine shop with wines from our own wine-growing regions in Germany, France and Italy is opening today in the Höhenrain industrial park on the Hohenrand.

For owner Karl-Heinz Krawczyk, who grew up in Percha, it feels a bit like coming home.

Höhenrain

– Karl-Heinz Krawczyk was born into a family of connoisseurs.

The grandparents traded in groceries from 1949, the parents only in wine from 1977 and bought their first winery in 1984.

Krawczyk (51), who grew up in Percha, is the third generation to run the business.

Three wine shops in Munich belong to the family business "World of Wine", today he opens the first wine shop in the district of Starnberg.

The "Weinhaus am Starnberger See" offers wines from its own production in Germany, Italy and France as well as wines and spirits from all over the world.

It is important to Krawczyk to offer customers less big names than good value for money.

Ralf Fahrner will advise customers on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The "Weinhaus am Starnberger See" is still in the district of Starnberg, in the commercial area Am Hohenrand in Höhenrain at one of the westernmost corners of the district.

Six years ago, Krawcyk was building there for another project: the Starnberger Brauhaus, in which Krawczyk was involved until last year.

As is well known, the brewery has moved to Feldafing and is now on its way to Schorn.

The actual brewing rooms are rented to the company Schneider Haustechnik from Aufkirchen, and two artists have their studios on the upper floor.

Krawczyk is happy that he can use the storage rooms in the basement for his wine business and can finally open a wine shop in his home country.

Where storage rooms used to be hidden behind a roller door, there is now a 200 square meter sales room with a concrete floor and automatic glass door, all in industrial chic.

Bottles are neatly lined up on honey-colored wooden shelves in front of green walls.

“We currently have 734 items on sale, and there will be over 800,” says Krawczyk.

“I know it so well because I just typed it into the digital register.” The Krawczyk family's own wines make up a good part of the range.

The largest and most important estate is the Château les Bouzigues in Bordeaux.

In 1991, shortly after Krawczyk joined the company as a young man, the family bought it.

"Our range of vintages ranges from 1998 to 2015," he says.

It is still to be expanded.

Around 200,000 bottles of wine leave the estate every year.

In France, alongside Bordeaux, something special is created: "We're the only ones there who distil their pomace," reports Krawczyk.

"Customs no longer issue licenses." Krawczyk's unique Bordeaux grappa, matured in barriques, is also available in 500-milliliter bottles.

The Italian winery that Krawcyk's parents and sister run is located in southern Tuscany.

Only red wine is produced there, too.

Also the olive oil that the Fattoria Vadiavolo produces and the honey are sold in the wine house.

The German winery Angulus is located in the Rheingau.

“We mainly grow Riesling there and, more recently, Chardonnay as well,” reports Krawcyk.

There are also other German, French and Italian wines, but also wines from South America, Spain and Portugal.

The selection of sparkling wines is very large and a rosé collection is set up in the middle of the room.

"Rosé is almost exclusively drunk in France," says Krawczyk.

He and Fahrner are also looking forward to the opening because they know that they are welcome in Höhenrain.

"We once did a wine tasting and half the village came," says Krawczyk.

Even the ones he knew from playing soccer when he was young.
