The 119-level "Hundred Steps Ladder" connecting Kwai Chung Village and Wo Tong Tsui Street has been suffering for years. The residents of this area have been suffering for years, and the elderly and people with mobility problems are suffering even more. In 2019, we finally heard the residents' demands and started the construction of a ramp lift.

After three years, the lift project has finally entered the final stage and is expected to be put into use next Wednesday (6th). It is the first public covered ramp lift system in Hong Kong. The public can finally say goodbye on the 100-step ladder. One minute.

According to the Transport and Housing Bureau, the lift connecting Tai Wo Hau Road and Wo Tong Tsui Street in Kwai Chung will be commissioned next Wednesday (April 6). It is the first public covered ramp lift system in Hong Kong. Secretary Chen Fan arrived this afternoon. On site, inspect the final preparations before the opening of the ramp lift.

The authorities explained that the system consists of two ramp lifts with a total length of about 40 meters and a height difference of about 20 meters, which is about the height of a seven-story building.

After the system is put into use, residents living in uphill areas can save the inconvenience of walking the nearby "hundred-step ladder". It is estimated that the daily usage rate of the ramp lifts is 8,600, and each way up and down the mountain is greatly reduced to one minute.

The authorities continued to point out that the characteristic of ramp lifts is that they can be built along hills, reducing the obstruction of facilities to the landscape of adjacent buildings.

Due to the high terrain in Kwai Chung Village and the numerous high-rise residential buildings, ramp lifts can reduce the impact on the surrounding environment and provide fully automatic barrier-free passages, allowing passengers to go up and down the slopes directly and comfortably, eliminating the need to use front/rear vertical lifts The need to walk a section of elevated footpath.
