Warning, scam!
The UFC-Que Choisir magazine explains, on its website, the new scheme of scammers targeting Boncoin sellers.
By pretending to use the platform's secure payment system and by plagiarizing emails from the platform, they try to have products sent to them for sale... without actually paying for them.
The technique is simple.
A hacker contacts a seller via Leboncoin, tells him that he paid via the secure platform and that he should receive news from the platform.
Somehow he got the seller's email address (which must be a hint if he asks).
In the seconds that follow, the seller actually receives an email similar to that of Leboncoin in which it is written that the payment has been made and that it suffices to send the product to the address indicated.
Precautions to take
UFC-Que Choisir thus tells this story, which happened to Elie, who was then selling a high-end computer for 1,850 euros on the platform.
Fortunately, says the media, Elie realizes that the confirmation of Leboncoin should have reached him in the Bon coin messaging service and not by email… The young man smelled the scam and did not send his product.
How common is this scam?
On the Signal arnaques site, which lists the many scams present on the Internet, several testimonies point in this direction.
UFC-Que Choisir recalls the rules of use against these scams: check the recipient of the email, identify if there are spelling or grammatical errors, find it suspicious that a buyer is not trying to negotiate, check the shipping address and send your products always through the platform.
