During the past five years, we have managed to tackle a few causes - unemployment, work, deindustrialisation - on which I had received a clear mandate from the French.
But, when one directs, governs or presides, one always has a share of responsibility.
In the field of immigration, the results are insufficient, but we have strengthened border protection and greatly tightened the conditions for entering our territory in a context where flows have increased considerably following the deterioration of the international context.
Our country is not overwhelmed, as some claim, and “zero immigration” is neither realistic nor desirable.
