An arsonist was up to mischief in an underground car park in Freising.

The result: a major operation.

Now the police are looking for witnesses.

Freising

– It was just before 8 p.m. when a resident noticed a lot of smoke in the underground car park of an apartment building on Vöttinger Straße on Sunday evening and immediately called the emergency number hours busy.

The ventilation of the multi-storey underground car park on Vöttinger Straße in Freising was extremely complex.

The fire brigade had previously been able to prevent the flames from spreading to surrounding cars.

The criminal police in Erding have now started investigations and assume that the fire was deliberately set.

"Several small sources of fire in the same underground car park were reported last Friday afternoon, but they were able to be extinguished by a witness," writes the police press office.

"However, there was no property damage at the time."

Items were on fire

With the keyword "B 4", the integrated control center ordered the fire engines of both Freisinger stations to the scene.

When the first vehicles, including the city fire inspector and commander Oliver Sturde, arrived at Vöttinger Strasse, smoke was already coming out of the underground car park.

A rescue team quickly gained access to the building.

The cause was quickly located: In the first basement floor, the source of the fire was "a pallet with cardboard boxes, reports the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria North.

According to initial investigations, the fire was intentionally set on fire.

"The fire caused material damage in the low four-digit range to a car parked next to it," the press report continues.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The fire brigade immediately started fighting the fire with a C-pipe and soon had the fire under control.

A spread to surrounding vehicles could just about be prevented by acting quickly.

According to the fire brigade, the ventilation measures for the multi-storey underground car park turned out to be more complex.

In the end, five overpressure ventilators were used in several places to free the underground car park from the toxic fire smoke.

Carbon monoxide measurements were carried out several times.

Shortly after 10 p.m., the underground car park was finally released again.

For the duration of the operation, Vöttinger Strasse in the area around the building also had to be completely closed.

The Kripo Erding asks people who have made suspicious observations to call Tel. (0 81 22) 96 80.
