The head of the food services at the Ministry of Health, Pnina Oren Schnidor, said this morning (Monday) that for the past six months he has not been in charge of food at the Strauss factory, where the salmonella contamination is located.
Nevertheless, the plant was audited last March.
She said this at a discussion in the Knesset Health Committee, adding that "we know to say that there were some serious failures in the factory, but we are still far from knowing with certainty what the source of the pollution is."
On the other hand, the CEO of Strauss, who was also present at the committee, denied the allegations.
In the last three weeks, 69 cases of salmonella have been diagnosed. It should be emphasized that this is not unusual, since there are about 3,000 cases each year. R. Sharon Elrai Price, who explained that "each case undergoes an investigation to check if there is a connection or exposure to the products. The samples are tiled - so far we have not found any problematic flooring."

About a week ago the Ministry of Health announced that 30 positive samples for salmonella were found out of 300 samples taken at the Strauss candy factory.
The ministry also noted that in recent months, maintenance work has been carried out at the plant in parallel with the continuation of the chocolate production processes at the plant, without taking into account the risks that may affect the production process.
The plant also knew about the ions entering the production site and acted to exterminate them, but did not comprehensively examine how the ions might affect the safety of the sweets.
It was also found that the plant's quality and safety control system was deficient, and there was no standard of food safety manager.
Furthermore, it emerged that a customer of the plant reported an indication for salmonella - but his complaint was not dealt with as required.
A material failure is also found in the process of thawing the milk fat in the chocolate, which is not done according to the manufacturer's instructions and may impair the safety of the chocolate.
