After the nationwide strike and day of action by employees in the municipal social and educational services last week, the Verdi union is increasing the pressure on employers.
A nationwide rally is planned for Wednesday (10:30 a.m.) in Gelsenkirchen.
The main speaker is the Verdi national chairman Frank Werneke.
As a union spokesman told dpa on Monday, around 8,000 participants are expected to take part in the demo on Heinrich-König-Platz.
Düsseldorf - The reason for the major event is the current collective bargaining dispute with the Association of Municipal Employers' Associations (VKA) in the municipal social and educational service.
The previous two collective bargaining rounds in February and March were unsuccessful.
The third round of negotiations will take place on May 16th and 17th in Potsdam.
In the collective bargaining, Verdi calls for an improvement in working conditions, measures to combat the shortage of skilled workers and financial recognition of the work of the employees.
Affected are social workers, educators and day care center employees and employees of the school all-day and the disabled support.
In addition to the main rally in Gelsenkirchen, where the VKA negotiator lives, further strike measures are planned throughout the country this week.

“In this collective bargaining dispute, the employees are striking so that they can do their work better in the interests of children and families.
This is only possible through relief and measures to counter the shortage of skilled workers," said Verdi regional department head Andrea Becker.
"The blocking attitude of the employers at the negotiating table is therefore directed against the employees as well as against the parents and children."
The VKA had recently criticized the numerous strikes in recent weeks as disproportionate.
They put an additional burden on the parents.
Educators, for example, earned significantly more at municipal daycare centers than at other providers.
