Refugees from the Ukraine are shown a great willingness to help – often by private individuals.

But there are situations in which civic engagement reaches its limits.

Moorenweis – In Moorenweis, for example, the asylum workers feel abandoned by the district office.

Around 40 refugees from the Ukraine live in the Gasthof Zur Alten Post.

Most of the adults and children have severe physical and mental disabilities.

These people need a lot of support – more than volunteers.

Deputy Mayor Rudi Keckeis (Citizens' Association) is now venting his anger.

The district office would stay out of the problem far too much.

hopelessly overwhelmed

"The circle of helpers is hopelessly overwhelmed," said Keckeis on the sidelines of the most recent municipal council meeting.

The situation in the Hotel Post cannot be compared with a normal refugee situation.

The residents often have to be driven to doctor's appointments, sometimes to specialists in Munich.

That takes half the day.

Some helpers would take extra vacation time for such assignments.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular FFB newsletter.)

If taxi rides have to be organized, there are problems with payment.

"This group of people does not yet have access to health insurance," says Keckeis.

Taxi authorization slips issued by medical practices would therefore not help.

It has already happened that the circle of helpers has advanced the costs from their donation account.

The language barrier is also more important here than anywhere else.

"Some doctors already say that you no longer need to come without an interpreter." Keckeis demands professional help for the hotel residents from the district office.

"It needs more support and a permanent interpreter." That the circle of helpers is at the limit was also confirmed by Keckeis' parliamentary colleague Michael Vogt, who also wonders why the severely disabled were sent to Moorenweis in large numbers.

That's what the authorities say

When asked by the Tagblatt, the district office commented on the allegations.

"When the corresponding bus from Ukraine was announced, suitable accommodation had to be found very quickly," said a spokeswoman for the authorities.

The Hotel Post – which has a lift, among other things – was the most suitable.

“There was no real alternative available at the time.

The preparation time was extremely short,” the spokeswoman continued.

In the Moorenweiser accommodation, daily on-site checks would be carried out by a support team from the accommodation department.

Accompanied by interpreters, the employees were asked what was needed.

There is a fixed object manager, payments of aid would take place on site, the spokeswoman for the district office continued.

A family doctor holds regular consultations in the Alte Post.

An interpreter is also present on these occasions.

As far as the assumption of taxi costs is concerned, this is not provided for in the relevant regulations.

In principle, refugees from Ukraine can use local public transport free of charge.
