The Russian Embassy in the United States described as "absurd" allegations by the US State Department about Moscow's involvement in cyber attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure.

Russia Today website quoted the embassy as saying in a statement today: "We paid attention to the statement of the US State Department about Russia's alleged involvement in cyber-attacks on the vital infrastructure of Ukraine...Such statements are absurd and far from the true state of affairs...Our country has never engaged in any cyber aggression. This contradicts Russia's principled position.

The embassy added: “We are committed to using information and communications technology exclusively for the development of the international community,” noting that the Russian Federation “is ready for an equal, professional, and depoliticized dialogue with the United States on a wide range of topical issues related to information security, and Moscow affirms that it maintains open channels of cooperation.” Practical .. and the Americans are aware of this.”

And the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington pointed out that the US State Department does not want to recognize that the United States is one of the main sources of global cyber threats, explaining that “it is precisely from US soil that most computer attacks are carried out on critical infrastructure sites in other countries, including Russia … Over the past six months alone, our relevant departments have sent out nearly 500 notifications of malicious activity from United States jurisdiction.”

The embassy indicated that "the Kyiv regime, with the tacit approval of the Americans, is actively working to create the world's first electronic army of about 300,000 members," stressing that "instead of looking for an imaginary threat from Russia, Washington should have restrained its followers in Kyiv who openly plan and commit acts of sabotage." “It is very possible that Ukrainian hackers will not only make provocations against our country and will try to test the strength of Western infrastructure and will carry out so-called operations under a foreign flag.”
