Police announced today (Saturday) that they intend to open an investigation into the conduct of police officers yesterday at the funeral of Palestinian journalist Sheerin Abu Akala who was killed a few days ago in Jenin.
Senior police officials said that as a learning and professional organization, lessons will be learned from the incident.
Therefore, Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, in coordination with the Minister of Internal Security Amar Bar-Lev, instructed that an investigation be conducted into the incident, the conclusions of which will be presented to the Commissioner in the coming days.
The police claim that the Jerusalem police were held yesterday to allow for a quiet and dignified funeral for Sheerin Abu Akala, and even coordinated the funeral arrangements with the family.
On the other hand, hundreds of rioters were organized who wanted to sabotage during the ceremony and harm the police.
As with any operational incident, and certainly an incident in which police officers were exposed to violence by rioters and forced to use force, the Israel Police will also investigate the course of the funeral.
