EU coordinator Enrique Mora held two-day talks with the Islamic Republic's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Bagheri, in Tehran last week, leading the EU to say that the negotiations had been "reopened".

These negotiations, which aim to bring the United States back to the agreement reached in 2015 between Iran and the great powers, and to bring Iran into full compliance with it, had been at a standstill for about two months.

"

Serious and result-oriented negotiations have taken place, with special initiatives from Iran

," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Said Khatibzadeh told reporters, without going into details.

If the United States gives its response to some of the solutions that have been proposed, we can be in a position where all parties will return to Vienna

”, where the talks are being held, he added during his conference of weekly press.

Washington, on the other hand, adopted a less optimistic tone.

State Department spokesman Ned Price said Friday that "

at this point, an agreement remains far from certain

."

And to add:

It is up to Iran to decide if it wants to conclude an agreement quickly

”.

Iran has entered into direct negotiations with France, Germany, Britain, Russia and China to revive the 2015 agreement supposed to frame the Iranian nuclear program.

The United States participates indirectly.

The 2015 deal gave Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program, to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon, something the country has always denied it wants to do.

But the United States' unilateral withdrawal from the accord in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump's administration and the reimposition of tough economic sanctions have prompted Iran to start backtracking on its own commitments.
