New presidential term, new prime minister.
After a long wait, Jean Castex finally submitted his resignation to Emmanuel Macron this Monday, May 16, more than three weeks after the re-election of the head of state.
It is Elisabeth Borne, Minister of Labor in the Castex government since 2020, who succeeds him.

The last rays of the day still crossed the courtyard of the Hôtel de Matignon, while the former mayor of Prades passed the torch to Elisabeth Borne.
Going up the stairs side by side after a first handshake and a hug, the two tenants of Matignon, one entering, the other leaving, spoke in private for a few minutes.
They then each delivered a short speech.
Before starting his, Jean Castex was greeted with numerous applause.
With a big smile, the former prime minister says he is “
particularly happy
” to welcome the one who succeeds him at Matignon.
Before praising his record.
“
My government has done a lot
,” he testifies, recalling that “
the French people are a demanding people
”, but “
who know how to cope
”.
Finally, he wishes good luck to the new tenant of Matignon, who arrived in government before him, of whom he underlines the “
tremendous qualities of righteousness, integrity, competence and voluntarism
”.
“I would like to dedicate this nomination to all the little girls”
During her first speech as Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne thanked Jean Castex for his “
unfailing commitment
”, and affirmed that he could count on her, “
to continue on this path
”.
Echoing Emmanuel Macron's promise between the two rounds to appoint Prime Minister directly in charge of the ecological transition, Élisabeth Borne specifies that on the "
climate and ecological challenge
", it will be necessary to "
act faster and stronger
», and this by «
involving more the living forces of our territories
».
At the conclusion of her speech, the Prime Minister mentions the first woman appointed to Matignon before her, Edith Cresson between 1991 and 1992, for whom she has "
a thought
".
"
I would like to dedicate this nomination to all the little girls by telling them go after your dreams, and nothing should stop the fight for the place of women in our society
," she concludes.
First woman in this position for thirty years, Elisabeth Borne has already received the congratulations of many political figures, such as Valérie Pécresse or even Catherine Vautrin, herself approached for a time for this position.
As well as strong criticism, ranging from Marine Le Pen to Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

Despite this nomination, Elisabeth Borne has yet to face the polls for the first time, as the candidate for the presidential majority in the 6th constituency of Calvados.
If she were to lose this election, she could have to leave Matignon.
In 2017, however, this constituency was won by more than 68% by the LREM candidate, Alain Tourret.
By June 12 and 19, it remains for the Prime Minister to make herself known, and loved, by the French.
As for Jean Castex, he says he is now ready to take “
a step aside, leaving national politics
”, in which he admits having entered “
a little by breaking and entering in July 2020
”.
“
I will of course continue to serve our country.
There are so many ways to serve your country when you love it, outside of politics
,” he announced at the end of his speech.

My number does not change
”, he also slipped to the new tenant of Matignon, at the end of his speech.
