Inauguration of a cultural center in the central prison in As-Suwayda

With the aim of raising the level of prison inmates in terms of intellectual, educational and cultural aspects, and transforming prisons into correctional and rehabilitation institutions, a cultural center opened today in the central prison in Sweida, whose first activities included a theatrical performance and a lyrical performance.

The ceremony, which was held at the prison theater, included the screening of a short film (promo) that sheds light on the reality of the central prison in As-Suwayda as a rehabilitation and correctional institution and its various service, health, educational, cultural and sports facilities, as well as various training and production workshops equipped with the necessary.

The ceremony also included a theatrical performance entitled (Into Hope) by the Syrian Family Planning Association branch in As-Suwayda and carrying awareness messages by raising the issue of child labor and their exploitation by some to promote prohibited and dangerous materials and the importance of awareness and providing them with proper care.

The guests were on a date with a diverse artistic performance, which was performed by the Mayamin band of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent branch in As-Suwayda. It included a bouquet of traditional and traditional songs from various Syrian governorates, reflecting their diversity and aesthetics, in addition to a group of old Lebanese songs.

The head of the Suwayda Central Prison Branch, Brigadier Zain Al-Abidin Muhammad, explained during a speech that culture is an essential pillar in the process of comprehensive development and strengthening the elements of national identity to always remain fortified, steadfast, and alive. Through the implementation of a cultural plan that simulates their minds from awareness, guidance and entertainment lectures.

For her part, Director of Culture in Suwayda, Laila Abu Fakhr, considered that the opening of the center represents a useful addition to the reality that challenged the character of the place and brought it to the positive direction full of natural life in terms of knowledge, work, training, rehabilitation, production and care. And time to go away in the areas of thought and knowledge.

It is noteworthy that last month, in the same context, a library was opened for the Arab Writers Union in the Central Prison School as one of the fruits of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of Interior and the Writers Union, based on the ministry's keenness to transform prisons into reform and rehabilitation institutions and raise the level of culture, education and awareness among inmates.

The opening of the cultural center was attended by official, cultural and intellectual events, representatives of relevant NGOs and prison inmates.
