Round of appointments in the IDF • Uri Gordin, chief of the editorial command, has been announced as the new commander of the Northern Command • He will be replaced by Rafi Milo, whose promotion in the army has been delayed for years • Several candidates compete

New Commander of the Northern Command: Defense Minister Bnei Gantz today (Thursday), on the recommendation of the Chief of Staff, approved the appointment of the Commander of the Home Front Command, Major General Uri Gordin, as the next Commander of the Northern Command of the IDF.

Maj. Gen. Gordin was born in 1969 and enlisted in the General Staff Reconnaissance Regiment in 1988, where he served as a fighter and commander.

He is considered a highly regarded and creative officer.

In Gordin's place, it was decided to appoint Brigadier General Rafi Milo as commander of the Home Front Command.

The new appointment is a graduate of Squadron 13 - one of the elite units in the IDF.

During his tenure, he led Operation Northern Shield and at the end of the operation decided on his own to enter one of the Hezbollah tunnels without coordination with his commanders.

He stepped at the head of a small force to the end of the tunnel.

Following the incident, the chief of staff decided to delay his promotion by 2022. Following this, he announced that he intended to retire from the army, but withdrew.

Meanwhile, the IDF is also preparing for a decision on the identity of the next chief of staff.

Defense Minister Ganz does not intend to start discussing the issue before next July, so as not to turn Lt. Col. Kochavi into a "lame chief of staff."

Lt. Col. Kochavi is expected to end his term in January this year after four years in office.

The candidate who is considered a leader to replace him is the current deputy chief of staff, Maj. Gen. Herzli Halevi. The second candidate is the former deputy chief of staff, Maj.

However, the big problem is the stability of the government, and the fact that its life expectancy is unclear.

When this is the case, Gantz may find himself in a situation where he cannot make the decisive decision, and at the current pace of developments, it is possible that another defense minister will soon be sitting in the defense minister's office.
