For fire safety reasons, the garbage room in the building may no longer be used.

The bins are outside now.

Dachau – It stinks for some residents of the old town at the moment.

As City Councilor Markus Erhorn (Freie Wahler Dachau) reported in the most recent main and finance committee meeting of the city administration, some citizens complained to him about the new type of waste disposal in the Schranne and asked with concern whether this model could also be used in summer - when the temperatures are rising and the smells of rotting leftovers become more intense - is retained?

"Is there a long-term solution," says Erhorn, because "it's actually not really nice to look at either."

Mayor Florian Hartmann agreed with him.

However, the catering and event facility, which is managed by the municipal cultural office, currently has an “unclear approval situation regarding fire protection”.

In the course of the most recent conversion work, as Treasurer Thomas Ernst explains, the building was also examined more closely in terms of fire protection and it was found "that there are certain issues".

According to Ernst, in order to "avoid a danger to life and limb", as stated in the relevant regulations, the city had to "implement immediate measures urgently and quickly".

If this had not happened, the district office would have closed the Kulturschranne.

The immediate measures therefore included applying fire protection paint to critical areas.

The lack of fire protection doors – including in the Schranne garbage room – was compensated for by the fact that the garbage room is simply no longer used and the garbage cans, surrounded by a site fence, are stored above ground behind the building.

The good news: According to Ernst, the fire protection doors have been ordered and have already arrived.

They should be installed in the next few weeks.

The annoying and smelly food residues disappear back inside the building.

However, the complete fire protection renovation of the Schranne will be "very complex", as Ernst predicts.

And expensive!

Ernst does not want to name a sum that could come to the finance department in terms of bills.

First of all, according to Mayor Hartmann, one must "enter into the more detailed processing of the whole".
