The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, indicated this Sunday that the presidential elections in his country will not be suspended, as the presidential candidate for the Historical Pact coalition, Gustavo Petro, suggested this Saturday.

"Here nobody can think that the elections are going to be suspended or that there are going to be coups d'état," said the president from Davos, Switzerland, where he will participate in the World Economic Forum, according to a video published on his website. twitter account.

"We have a vibrant democracy and we are going to see elections next week where all the Colombian people have to go out and vote and vote well," added Duque.

Duque's statements come a day after Petro said at a campaign closing ceremony in Barranquilla that "on Tuesday they plan to hit the elections next Sunday, May 29. They plan to suspend the elections, they plan to suspend the bodies that govern the electoral process in Colombia.

Some 39 million Colombians are called to elect a new president in elections to be held next Sunday.

According to opinion polls, Petro is the candidate who leads in electoral preferences.
