After the attack on a Texas elementary school in which several children died, US President Joe Biden wants to take tougher action against gun violence in the United States.

WASHINGTON – An 18-year-old killed several children and a teacher at an elementary school in the small town of Uvalde, Texas.

The attack prompted Joe Biden to address the country Tuesday night.

The US President found out about the terrible crime on the flight back from Asia.

In his first reaction, he advocated stricter gun laws.

Uvalde: Joe Biden dismayed by Texas elementary school attack

When he became president, Biden said he hoped he wouldn't have to experience anything like this again.

In his speech he addressed the Americans and was concerned: "Another massacre, Uvalde, Texas, an elementary school.

Beautiful, innocent second, third, and fourth graders.

And how many little children who witnessed what happened.

They watched their friends die like they were on a battlefield, for heaven's sake.

They're going to have to live with that for the rest of their lives."

Beautiful, innocent second, third, and fourth graders.

And how many little children who witnessed what happened.

They watched their friends die like they were on a battlefield, for heaven's sake.

You will have to live with it for the rest of your life.

Biden also expressed his condolences to those affected, parents, siblings and relatives of the elementary school children who were shot: “The parents who will never see their child again.

You will never be able to jump into bed and cuddle with them.

Parents will never be the same again.

Losing a child is like tearing away a piece of your soul," Biden said.

The President also drew political conclusions from the incident.

"When, in God's name...": Biden wants to take action against gun violence in the USA

As a nation, you have to ask yourself, "When in God's name are we going to rise up against the gun lobby?"

When in God's name will we all know like we've got to do something?" Detroit, Michigan on.

But rampages had also taken place in cinemas and places of worship in the USA in the past.

Most recently at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York a few days ago.

"I'm fed up with it.

We must act and not say we cannot influence this slaughter,” Biden said.

“When we passed the ban on assault weapons, mass shootings went down.

When the law expired, the shootings tripled.

The idea that an 18-year-old boy can walk into a gun store and buy two assault rifles is just wrong," Biden said.

During his time as a senator and vice president, he tried to get sensible gun laws on the way.

After Uvalde, Biden sees the USA as “time to act”: USA should no longer “live with carnage”

According to Biden, this type of gun violence is nowhere more common than in the USA: “And why?

There are psychological problems, there are domestic quarrels in other countries.

Why are we willing to live with this carnage?

Why do we keep letting this happen?

Where in God's name is our backbone to have the courage to confront and stand up to the lobbies?” asked the US President rhetorically.

It is time to “put this pain into action”: “For all parents, for all citizens of this country, we have to make it clear to every elected official in this country.

It is time to act,” Biden appealed to his colleagues.

Nowhere else do young children go to school thinking that they might be shot that day.

Chris Murphy, US Senator

Biden also received support from Democratic Senator Chris Murphy: "There is nothing like this in this country and nowhere else. Nowhere else do small children go to school with the thought that they could be shot that day." The children were afraid to go to school to go, the Connecticut state congressman said.

In the speeches, both Biden and Murphy repeatedly referred to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Murphy asked his fellow Republicans to work together to find a meaningful solution.

Even if attacks cannot be completely prevented, one should not send the signal to stand by and do nothing.

Messages of condolence also came from Europe.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) said on Twitter: "Our thoughts are with the injured and the survivors of the victims of this incredible massacre, for which it is difficult to find words." people would be shot.

French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed his condolences to the people of the United States.

"19 of the victims were younger than ten years old," Macron wrote on Twitter.

The children and their teachers were "cowardly murdered".

"We share the shock and sadness of the American people and the anger of everyone working to end the violence," he added.

Pope Francis said Wednesday after a general audience at the Vatican that he was "heartbroken" by the bloodbath in Texas.

"I pray for the children and adults killed and their families," said the head of the Catholic Church, calling for the "uncontrolled" arms trade to be curbed.
