Efforts and efforts made by the Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Daraa to preserve biodiversity and vegetation cover and reduce fires in the governorate’s lands, which contributes to achieving sustainable development and ensures the marketing of the largest possible amount of wheat and barley crops.

Director of Agriculture, Bassam Al-Hashish, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the directorate mobilized all its cadres to protect the wheat crop and took measures to ensure its marketing to the centers of public institutions. .

He pointed out that Daraa Governorate distributed firefighting tanks, civil defense personnel and agriculture to the agricultural areas, with the preparation of tractors mounted on plowing rails to intervene in the event of any fire, with the formation of a rapid response room to fight fires wherever they occur.

Engineer Bassam indicated that the authorities concerned with the agricultural sector have set an appropriate price for harvesting mechanisms and have secured all marketing requirements such as burlap bags and fuel, while securing fuel oil for harvesting leguminous and fodder crops.

Head of the Forestry Department in the Directorate, Eng. Jamil Al-Abdullah, said in a similar statement that the department has taken measures and measures to limit the spread of forest and agricultural fires by launching indicative seminars for local residents near forest sites and distributing publications showing the importance of trees and the danger of fires and preventive measures, in addition to allocating numbers 113 and 188. To report any forest or agricultural fire, indicating that the department has also equipped its four tanks, with drivers' data, their phone numbers and their parking location, to inform them for immediate intervention in the event of fires.

He added that the department provided the firefighting teams with backpacking pumps to be used in locations where mechanisms are difficult to reach. It also provided the development and education teams in the Forestry Department with equipment to cut trees that impede the movement of the firefighting teams, while securing a number of tractors to open fire lines in the event of fires.

Al-Abdullah indicated that the Daraa governorate follows an organized mechanism with the approach of the harvest season by forming a joint operations room based in the Daraa Fire Brigade, which includes all the authorities concerned with fires, with the designation of a fire commander in each region whose task is to manage firefighting operations and coordinate with vehicle drivers and cadres in the event of any emergency.

Al-Abdullah explained that the department, in its field of work to preserve the vegetation cover, is working on launching afforestation campaigns to different sites, distributing forest plantings for free, following up on forest sites, and regulating seizures against violators, especially those who cut down and transport trees without a license. It also works on land reclamation and opening forest roads in places different.

With regard to biodiversity, the head of the Forestry Department explained that Daraa governorate is one of the governorates in which plant and animal species spread, some of which are local, and some are adapted to the prevailing conditions, the most important of which are “animal species” desert locusts, eastern cockroach, wild boar, hedgehogs, blackbirds, sparrows, owls, hyenas, deer, wolves, and others. Plants” Sidr, capers and hawthorn, some of which are threatened with extinction due to unjust human practices.
