Around seven months after the founding of the Sonnensegler Bürger-Energiegenossenschaft eG, the first project was formally concluded with a contract.

Germering – A roof photovoltaic system (PV) can be installed on the roof of the municipal kindergarten Kleiner Muck, which supplies the facility with energy.

"There were many good reasons why the Kleine Muck was chosen as the first building," explained Michael Lorenz when the contract was signed - the pastor of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Church is deputy chairman of the cooperative.

It is a new building in which the PV technology could be easily integrated.

In addition, due to the type of facility, energy consumption is very high during the day.

Cooking for the children is an example of this.

Therefore, self-sufficiency is very important, according to Lorenz.

For third mayor Sophie Schuhmacher (Greens), a project of this kind is "long overdue".

The fact that the first location of a solar sail plant is in Germering makes her proud.

"It's great that we are role models and pioneers."

It is also important that this cooperative exists, said Schuhmacher.

Their commitment to the cooperative in terms of sustainability also means relief for the city.

The city administration is often not able to cope with this issue purely in terms of personnel.

"But that can only be the first step," Schumacher continued.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular FFB newsletter.)

As Pastor Lorenz also informed, further projects will be examined in Germering in the near future.

At the moment, they do not want to specify what these are.

In any case, Lorenz also sees the PV project on the roof of the kindergarten as the starting signal.

The city's recently presented energy use plan offers many more possibilities on municipal roofs,

Children learn sustainability

With regard to the Kleiner Muck location, Lorenz also sees “a certain educational effect for the children”.

In this way, they would experience sustainability on a daily basis and, over time, learn to understand the importance of alternative energies for the future.

In the run-up to the installation, the children observed with great interest the use of a drone, which photographed the roof from above in preparation for the planning.

The photovoltaic system will work with a peak output of 50 kilowatts.

According to Lorenz, this saves 23 tons of CO2.

The cooperative founded on October 18, 2021 works across the district and sees the energy transition as a community project.

"Everyone can take part and everyone benefits from cheap, clean energy from home," says their website.
