The Murnau pedestrian zone will be enriched by a work of art in the foreseeable future.

A Schäffler fountain will be erected near the Hotel Post.

There seems to have been major discussions behind closed doors in the municipal council.

Murnau

- It's a topic that has occupied the Murnau Schäffler and the market community for ages.

For example, in 2008 it became known that the Schäffler should get a fountain in 2009 for their 150th anniversary.

The municipal councils provided 50,000 euros at the time.

But the project was never implemented.

The idea popped up again last year.

A lot has happened since then.

A wood sculptor from Oberammergau created a 1.30 meter high figure in the typical dance step.

It is taken to the Niedermeier art foundry in Munich.

The concrete factory Sprenger (Wallgau) will produce the barrel ganter and the tub.

Location near the Hotel Post

It is now also clear where the artwork will be placed.

"The fountain is planned to be set up near the Hotel Post," said town hall spokeswoman Annika Röttinger.

The owner of the property is the market town of Murnau.

The area in front of the Griesbräu garden was also up for debate.

The entire work of art should be colored.

According to Röttinger, the art advisory board was involved in advance.

"For our association, the market-side location at Griesbräu would have been absolutely fine," says Michael Huber, chairman of the Schäfflerverein, "but we are pleased that the market community has now opted for the more central location in the middle of the pedestrian zone."

Citizens must stay outside

Remarkable: the average citizen was left out of the decisions.

"The discussion about the design and the location of the Schäffler fountain was held in a closed session to protect those involved," says Röttinger.

Who needs to be protected and for what reason – the community remains silent on this question.

Röttinger only speaks of data protection.

The municipality also does not want to answer the question of how often the Schäfflerbrunnen was a topic in meetings this year and when.

This also applies to the voting results (location/color design).

In any case, the representatives of the people seem to have had a need to talk.

It can be heard from local council circles that there was a “heated debate”.

There is even talk of a “drama in several acts”.

It might have been the color scheme.

According to club chairman Huber, it shouldn't be "a brightly colored fountain".

Rather, it is designed with “muted colors”.

A color-coded fountain was also the wish of the association.

He is already in contact with a barrel painter.

Huber hopes that the fountain can be inaugurated in autumn.

Röttinger says: "There is currently no date for the installation." Preparations for the installation are currently underway.

The Schäffler have already spoken to the municipal works.
