MK Eli Cohen said during the debate that "the parade with PLO flags in universities represents the aspirations of those who want to eliminate the Jewish state, that is the message it has."
According to him, "this is not a step of academic freedom but a step of incitement and defiance against the State of Israel. On the one hand they wave the PLO flags but on the other hand they want to receive budgets from the State of Israel."
Education Minister Yifat Shasha Bitton replied In matters of legislation, it decided that the coalition would be given the freedom to vote on the proposal, and during the discussions in preparation for the first reading, it would be examined whether to include the PLO flag or that of enemy states only.
She added that she personally supports the bill, "I have seen what is happening in academic institutions, the hoisting of the flag comes along with provocation and is usually accompanied by incitement and praise to martyrs and constitute explosives," she said.
The chairman of the joint list, MK Ayman Odeh, objected: "It will not help you, seven years ago the Knesset banned the celebration of Nakba Day, since the number of participants is growing and there are many small children marching with the Palestinian flag, it will not help you. "Like any colonialist and thief, you are a Nakba deniers, you are a people deniers, you are a people deniers flag. This is not a PLO flag, this is a Palestinian flag, from now on you will see many more Palestine sizes."
