Thumbs up for the Friedingen fire brigade: The lightweight wooden building will become the new fire station in the Andechs district.

Among many others, Commander Stefan Sedlmayr, District Administrator Stefan Frey and Mayor Georg Scheitz were present at the topping-out ceremony.

The community of Andechs can't get out of the party mood.

First the boys' anniversary in Machtlfing, on Pentecost Sunday the first ox race in Frieding - and in between the topping-out ceremony for the new fire station in Frieding was celebrated on Thursday.

Frieding –

Andechs' Mayor Georg Scheitz can still remember it well when he was fire department consultant for the Andechs municipal council twelve years ago: "When the first talks took place, it was clear that Frieding needed a new fire station." New construction was too expensive for the monastic community.

Commander Stefan Sedlmayr was therefore "absolutely" happy that the topping-out ceremony on Scheuertalstrasse could be celebrated on Thursday.

The ground had literally been prepared long ago.

The property on Scheuertalstraße has belonged to the municipality for a long time.

The district under the then District Administrator Karl Roth bought in right next to it a few years ago and planned to build a disaster control center there.

A lightweight hall that was acquired in 2015 during the refugee crisis but was never completely built was to be used there.

25 000 to 30 000 euros rent for storage

This was originally supposed to be built in Gauting, but this was stopped in the middle, although two foundations had already been set.

Since then, the hall has been dismantled into individual parts in a warehouse in the Allgäu, where the district paid 25,000 to 30,000 euros per year for storage.

When a significantly cheaper storage option opened up for disaster control in the old printing works in Machtlfing, the hall increasingly became an expensive legacy site.

Until those responsible remembered the dilemma of the Frieding volunteer fire brigade last year.

Because the municipality of Andechs lacks the money to build a new tool shed.

3.3 million euros were estimated.

However, the lightweight hall was feasible and also so large that 500 square meters can even be rented.

So the district was rid of the legacy and the Friedingen fire brigade had a solution richer - and suddenly everything went very quickly.

"I didn't believe that a year ago," said Commander Sedlmayr at the topping-out ceremony.

Municipality pays two million euros

Now the hall stands on its foundation.

The timber construction cost the municipality two million euros - the materials had been ordered before Corona and the Ukraine war.

"Today we would probably have to use pressboard," said Scheitz.

The hall is 1000 square meters in size, plus a 400 square meter extension, which was originally intended for sanitary facilities, but which now houses a training room, changing rooms, sanitary facilities and a youth room.

The municipality only had to take care of the roof tiles and wooden facade.

The bricks are already on it, the facade has been ordered.

Because the fire brigade only needs half of the hall, a tenant is now being sought.

Scheitz had representatives of the district fire inspection at his side during a tour.

Because the rooms in Machtlfing are already getting tight again due to Corona and the wave of refugees.

District Administrator Stefan Frey was also there "to take a look at it first", as he said.

The district would be the municipality's first choice as a tenant.

Other uses would have to be approved first, because the area is set aside for the fire brigade and civil protection.

In this way, the fire brigade center planned at the time could still become a reality.

Mayor, commander and site manager Josef Nagl from the Wolf company carrying out the work ceremoniously toasted the extended work platforms at a dizzying height - with a view of the neighboring area, which belongs to the district, "there where the next ten Celtic graves are", Scheitz shouted in a good mood to the district administrator to.

Just a few hours earlier, the mayor, together with archaeologists, had presented the 2,800-year-old swords found on the community grounds (we reported).

Thanks to Anna Neppel and the old district administrator

Scheitz thanked his predecessor Anna Neppel for securing the property and Karl Roth for his foresight.

The old district administrator had come to Frieding by bike from Erling with his wife Elisabeth to celebrate.

"Within a year the shell will be there," said Scheitz proudly, before passing on the word with glass and microphone in hand so that he could hold on.

“But first it has to become a fire station,” said Sedlmayr.

At first there is only the scaffolding, even though he was amazed at the speed at which the individual parts were installed like Lego bricks.

Now it is up to the municipality and the fire department to turn it into a fire station.

There are no longer any doubts about this.

"Hooray for the community and the fire brigade," said site manager Josef Nagl, before he smashed the glasses on the floor with the mayor and commander, as is tradition.
