Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto affirmed today that the current policy of the European Union is cumbersome and very wrong, pointing out his country's interest in a strong European Union with strong members.
Russia Today website quoted Szijjarto as saying to the Hungarian Parliament: The current Brussels policy is based on trying to dictate its terms to the members of the European Union and aims primarily to create what he called the United States of Europe.
Szijjarto added: The European Union can be strong if nations adhere to their traditions and values, and if this link is weakened, which is what is happening in Brussels recently, then it and its member states will become weaker.
Szijjarto explained that the Hungarian government was acting according to the will of its people, who had supported it, and that was the essence of democracy.
On the position of the Hungarian government on EU sanctions against Russia, he stressed
The Hungarian minister reiterated that his country is still convinced that these sanctions should not apply to Russian gas supplies, without which the European economy at the present time cannot survive.
