The American newspaper, The Hill, saw that the record rise in fuel prices and inflation had become a thorny problem for the White House in the absence of a clear solution.
The newspaper said: "At a time when the administration of US President Joe Biden began this month to focus on its economic message, observers see that the attempt has failed so far, especially since the price of a gallon of gasoline has reached a record level of five dollars."
The newspaper pointed out that this, in addition to inflation, represents a major political challenge for Biden and Democrats.
According to a poll conducted by The Economist YouGov earlier this month, 85 percent of Americans see inflation as a serious problem, while 44 percent of those polled said Biden bears a lot of responsibility for inflation, while 31 percent said he has some.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said Americans should prepare for a harsh summer as a major energy agency predicts that fuel prices may not fall below $4 a gallon until next fall or winter.
According to the newspaper, the high inflation data, which came higher than experts' expectations, dealt another blow to the Biden administration, as inflation in the United States rose during the month of May to 8.6 percent, the highest since December 1981.
Biden has ordered the release of millions of barrels of oil from the strategic reserve to boost supplies, lift restrictions on the sale of fuels containing a high percentage of ethanol, and promote renewable energy sources such as electric cars and solar power.
