It took the firefighters almost an hour to get rid of it.

A spectacular fire broke out overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, in an apartment on rue Charles Lafitte, in Neuilly.

If no victims are to be deplored, the apartment from which the fire started was largely devastated.

It was shortly before 3 a.m. that the emergency services were alerted to the fire.

When firefighters and police arrived, the flames that devoured the apartment, on the 3rd floor of a four-storey building, were visible from the street.

While the EDF and GRDF teams were busy cutting off the electricity and gas, the building was quickly evacuated of its thirty residents.

A building almost mainly occupied by elderly people

An evacuation not easy to set up, the building being almost mainly occupied by elderly people and people with reduced mobility.

The most vulnerable of them were taken care of by police officers and brought to safety in the lobby of a nearby building, while firefighters brought the fire under control.

Slightly poisoned by the smoke, four occupants of the building had to be medicalized on the spot, without however being transported to the hospital.

Like the others, they were able to return to their apartment shortly after six in the morning.

Before that, each accommodation was of course checked and ventilated by the fire brigade.

According to initial findings, the origin of the fire was accidental.

The fire, whose exact origin has not yet been determined, would have started from one of the bedrooms.

The flames completely destroyed 80 of the 150 m2 of this accommodation.

Residents were rehoused with their families.
