Ukraine hopes for EU candidate status.
President Selenskyj now warned of increased Russian attacks in the next few days - also on other EU countries.
Kyiv - While the escalating Ukraine conflict continues to be fought primarily in the east of the country, people in Kyiv are hoping for a sign from Brussels.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes that his country will be granted EU candidate status and has now warned of a counter-reaction from Russia.

"A truly historic week begins tomorrow when we hear the answer from the European Union on Ukraine's candidate status," said Zelenskyy on Monday night.
He followed up with a gloomy forecast of how this situation and then probably a possible go from Brussels could affect it.
In Zelenskyy's opinion, Russia will "demonstratively increase its hostile actions" because of the decision on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
In his opinion, this means on the one hand that the Kremlin will step up military attacks in Ukraine - and on the other hand Russia could also target other European countries.
In the days before, Russia had reduced its oil supplies to Germany, Italy and Austria.

It is true that it was announced in Valdimir Putin that they had nothing against Ukraine joining the EU.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with the
Münchner Merkur
: "Putin seems to be afraid that the spark of democracy could spread to his country.
That is why for years he has been pursuing a policy aimed at dissolving NATO and the EU.”

Scholz and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had previously expressed their support for Ukraine in the negotiations on EU candidate status.
Now all 27 member states have to agree to it.
The final decision is to be made at the EU summit this week, on 23/24.
