Part of it is that there is a lot going on at the Puchheim train station in the evening after the folk festival.

On Saturday, however, this was officially the outpost of traditional Gaudi.

There was free beer again under the real Bavarian sky.

Puchheim

– Colorful bustle prevailed on Lochhauser Straße in Puchheim on Saturday.

32 clubs lined up for the parade at the train station in bright sunshine.

The Puchheimer brass band played a stand concert and Volksfest speaker Thomas Hofschuster tapped a keg of free beer for those waiting with two hits.

"That was a nice treat," said Wilfried Bach, who marched in blue and white for the German-Finnish Club.

He was very happy that the folk festival can finally take place again after a two-year forced break.

"It's great that we're together again and can leave Corona behind us a little."

The Mammendorfer Goaßlschnalzer, who cracked their whips, gave the starting signal for the pageant.

But before the participants could start marching, the organizers around Mayor Norbert Seidl first had to clear the way for the traditional sawing competition on the tree trunk that lay across Lochhauser Straße.

Only then did the long column move in the direction of the mayor-Ertl-Strasse.

Enough police despite the G7 summit

As usual, the train was secured by the police.

However, it was a challenge this year to muster the necessary personnel, reveals head of operations Roland Nist: "At the moment, such events are difficult for us because we have to make 30 percent of our personnel available for the G7 summit." Nevertheless, with five emergency services there are just as many police officers on site as in previous years.

"The process is always the same.

You can easily do that with five people,” says Nist.

Mirko Geschwindt with the Puchheim Boy Scouts has also joined the train.

"It's a great event, especially for the children, where they can run along in their scout gear." Gschwindt also likes the fact that the numerous clubs meet at the pageant.

"So you can see what's going on in Puchheim." The folk festival is also a nice offer for families.

"There are many rides and in the evening you can have a drink in the beer garden."

Regulars at the roadside

A few meters behind the scouts, the youth of FC Puchheim celebrate on the back of a small truck and sing party songs.

The offspring of his judo department, on the other hand, presented various throws on a trailer.

“The children show what they have learned.

We're trying to make the sport accessible to a wider audience," says coach Danilo Kunz.

He is looking forward to being able to get together with the other club members in the marquee "in private meetings away from training".

The end of the parade is formed by five old tractors belonging to the Puchheim bulldog friends, which are a popular photo motif for spectators.

Sautrog races were great fun again

Brigitte and Stefan Makovec are also standing on the edge and happily watching the hustle and bustle.

They live on Lochhauser Strasse and are regulars at the pageant.

“It's fun when you see all the people involved.

They show a colorful picture of Puchheim,” says Brigitte Makovec.

On the other hand, the two do not want to go to the folk festival itself.

“We are still holding back because of Corona,” explains her husband.

Helmut Schneider, on the other hand, has made himself comfortable in the beer tent with his children Jana and Dominik and daughter-in-law Alexandra Liu.

"It's nice that something like this can happen again.

The atmosphere in the tent under the Bavarian sky and the offers outside are just great.”

Folk festival and traffic

The parade is over, the folk festival runs until next Sunday.

Additional stopping and parking bans therefore apply on and in the vicinity of the Volksfestplatz.

This is necessary to ensure access for residents and emergency vehicles.

Compliance is checked by the parking surveillance and the police.

The best way to go is on foot or by bike. There is also the folk festival bus, which runs much longer this year, as they say.

The last departure from the Volksfestplatz in the direction of the train station is at 0.30 am.
