Classic car rally in the district of Landsberg

What is the wheelbase?

Whoever estimated it as accurately as possible had completed the last task of the VR ClassicCar Rally.

Landsberg – It has long been on the way to becoming a classic itself.

The VR-Bank Landsberg-Ammersee ClassicCar Rallye took place for the fifth time on Saturday.

In glorious summer weather, the tour went through the entire district and ended for the first time in Landsberg's old town.

Around 50 participants in vehicles - pardon me, cult cars - from the 1960s, 70s and 80s started in Kaufering in the morning for a tour of the beautiful routes and difficult tasks.

It went via Prittriching, Eresing and Windach to Hofstetten and on via Dießen, Apfeldorf, Waal and Erpfting to the finish line on the Flößerplatz in the middle of Landsberg.

Classic - with strawberry: The Fiat 500 was also on the road, in fiery Ferrari red.

Before the start, numerous spectators crowded the Fuggerplatz in Kaufering to see the rolling nostalgics up close.

If you wanted to, you could do so along the route using the previously published transit times.

There were further opportunities to reminisce about the Opel Manta, the VW Scirocco or the Ford Capri at lunchtime on Untermüllerplatz in Dießen, where the drivers took a break.

The public was also welcome at the various track stations to watch and cheer, because driving skills and a sense of proportion had to be proven here.

After all, the rally is not limited to enjoying the beautiful district panoramas on the way for the participants.

If you want to take the elegantly designed VR ClassicCar trophy home with you, you have to collect points, and these are not free.

Nothing for forward parkers

This year, too, skill tests awaited at the various stops, which were not as easy to master as it would be possible in modern cars without finesse such as power steering, reversing camera and warning sounds.

These included: reversing through a slalom course;

ride with the front wheel facing away from the driver as centrally as possible over a chalk line;

maneuver with the front edge of the car exactly over a red line - and much more.

Rather nothing for forward parkers.

Those who managed all this and made it to the finish line on the Landsberger Flößerplatz were welcomed by moderator Roland Balzer - and finally had to estimate the weight of their car (including occupants) and the wheelbase.

The latter was measured exactly on site, the former had already been determined en route by stopping on the scales.

"Normal People"

At the VR ClassicCar Rally in the district of Landsberg, Balzer appreciates that "normal people's youngtimers" take to the track here - instead of mostly extremely expensive vintage cars.

In fact, one of the participants once got his BMW in exchange for a wheat beer.

Another postponed his vacation to be part of the rally.

Another wolf in the district of Landsberg

Manfred Doll, Head of Marketing at VR-Bank Landsberg-Ammersee, speaks of an "extremely loyal fan base" that has built up over the years.

A good half of the starting field now consists of regular participants.

In addition to the district of Landsberg, the catchment area also includes the surrounding regions.

At the VR-Bank, everyone was happy about an all-round successful event - and that the dinner with all participants could take place in the inner courtyard of the bank building.

For the first time, VR-Bank received the approval of the public order office to hold the rally in the heart of the old town.
