"Why does he do this?

Is he just showing off?”

This maneuver had nothing to do with showing off.

A Spanish F-18 fighter jet takes a seat next to an Easyjet passenger plane.

The wobbling of the wings signals unequivocally: »Please follow«.

Reason for the maneuver: An 18-year-old Briton made a bomb threat via social media on Sunday from the Airbus that was on its way from London to Menorca.

Authorities took the joke seriously.

The jet escorts the holiday plane until it lands.

The Briton was subsequently arrested.

All passengers and their luggage were checked, sniffer dogs and bomb disposal experts searched for explosives.

According to media reports, the prankster faces a bill of around 58,000 euros for the operation.

In Spain, spreading a false bomb threat is punishable by up to a year in prison.
