Good news for SV Germering: The approximately 15-year-old artificial turf pitch is being restored and extensively renovated.

Germering – That is also urgently needed.

Because the place is in a desolate and sometimes dangerous condition.

Youth soccer players from SV Germering are still training for it, and the first men's team also played one game or a point game last season.

But the artificial turf is showing its age.

In the proposal for the meeting of the most recent planning and building committee, it was described as in need of renovation.

Germering's sports officer Christian Gruber (SPD) became clearer: "In principle, he is in tatters." Now the artificial turf will be completely renovated for around 260,000 euros in the summer holidays and in autumn.

Check for damage

The existing covering is carefully peeled off the substructure.

The elastic and asphalt base layers are then checked for damage.

In the area of the ball catch fence, a root protection film is also attached to prevent roots from growing back onto the sports field.

The new flooring will meet current environmental requirements and be free of microplastics.

FFB newsletter.)

The artificial turf pitch of SV Germering on Max-Reger-Strasse was created in 2007 - with an expected useful life of 12 to 15 years.

"So he has now reached his 'end of life'," as the city administration stated.

So it was foreseeable that a general refurbishment was imminent.

Since 2018, funds for repair work have had to be set aside at regular intervals - also for safety reasons.

The artificial turf had already come loose in places.

In addition, there was an increasing risk of injury for the footballers due to small bulges and holes on the pitch.

Sports club as builder

However, the general refurbishment will not be formally handled by the city as originally planned.

SV Germering itself will act as the builder.

Sports officer Christian Gruber thanked SVG Vice President Josef Doll for his active involvement in the problem.

"The renovation benefits the club and is recognition of its work," said sports officer Gruber.

Because SVG acts as the client, a project decision was then no longer necessary.

The main committee had already approved an investment subsidy in April.

Mayor Andreas Haas (CSU) explained that the project had been deliberately submitted to the planning and construction committee for information given the high costs involved.
