Three cell towers up to 30 meters high are to be erected in the municipality of Moorenweis.

The planned locations are near Steinbach, Dünzelbach and Grunertshofen.

Moorenweis – There is probably no criticism of the plans.

But opponents of mobile communications had stirred up an information evening.

Cell phone coverage is poor in the three districts.

In some places there is no reception, for example in the old school clubhouse in Steinbach, as reported by municipal councilor Michael Vogt (Bürgervereinigung/BV).

The fact that the supply is now to be improved is apparently welcomed in the village.

According to the Vogt, who lives in Steinbach, he has not heard any negative voices about the building project.

Contract is signed

The municipality is providing two of the plots of land required for the locations.

According to Deputy Mayor Rudi Keckeis (BV), one location is outside of Steinbach in the direction of Eresried.

The municipality has already signed the lease agreement with the client, the company ATC.

Things have not progressed that far in the case of Dünzelbach and Grunertshofen.

What is clear, however, is that the Dünzelbach location is on community-owned property north-west of the Stockschützenheim.

Distance to the town center: around 800 meters.

In Grunertshofen, the interested party is negotiating with a private owner, says Keckeis.

"The community has nothing to do with that."

Planning applications for the masts have not yet been received.

They would first have to be dealt with in the municipal council before they are approved by the district office as the building permit authority.

Two information events organized by the municipality with a speaker from the State Office for Environmental Protection have already taken place.

While the evening in Steinbach was reportedly factual and harmonious, there were apparently heated discussions in Dünzelbach.

"It quickly became irrelevant," says Keckeis.

Which was also due to the fact that the debate had been "hijacked" by foreign cell phone opponents.

Among other things, the height of the masts was questioned.

It has to be 30 meters because there has to be a minimum distance between the antennas, says Keckeis.

In addition, at a lower altitude in the case of the Dünzelbach location, the radio signal would be shadowed by trees.

Involuntary Publicity

Meanwhile, critical citizens have organized another information evening.

It was supposed to take place in the TSV hall, which didn't happen due to a misunderstanding, as organizer Kesari Reber explained when asked by the Tagblatt.

They had moved to the TSV home in Geltendorf.

The fact that the event location had to be pasted over on the flyers that had already been printed caused a stir in Moorenweis.

However, the change of location had nothing to do with the theme of the event, according to Reber.

Due to the involuntary publicity, the event was very well attended with over 150 listeners.

Klaus Buchner, physics professor and ex-ÖDP member of the European Parliament, appeared as a speaker.

According to Reber, it was about the problems of 5G and possibilities for health-friendly mobile communications.

She also complains that the tone on the subject is too rough.

"We should treat each other with respect, regardless of our opinion."
