The "Limone" route, which the railways chose for the northern approach to the Brenner, divided people in the community of Aßling.

Two camps have formed, facing each other.

Aßling

- In the municipal council meeting (Tuesday, August 9th), the new tracks, which will primarily affect the villages of Dorfen, Lorenzenberg, Niclasreuth, Pathendorf and Elkofen, are to be rejected by a local vote.

At least that's what 13 of 16 local councilors are demanding across the parliamentary groups, who are also opposing Mayor Hans Fent (independent), who described "lime" as the "most compatible solution".

Municipal councils receive mail from a citizens' initiative

In the run-up to the meeting, these 13 municipal councilors received mail from the citizens' initiative "Protect Aßling and the Atteltal".

Like Fent, the initiative welcomed the choice of route for the railway because, according to their own statements, they wanted to protect "the densely populated bottleneck at Aßlinger station as well as the landscape protection area and the FFH Attelleiten".

In the letter to the municipal councils, the initiative calls for the “interests of all people in Aßling” to be taken into account.

Instead, the 13 municipal councils, including the second mayor, Ernst Sporer-Fischbacher (UNL) and the third mayor, Sebastian Brilmayer (CSU), tried to give the impression "that you are rejecting the Limone route on behalf of the entire population." made the sweeping assertion that the Limone route would not be approved locally – whatever “locally” means.

Accusation: Local councils are delaying proceedings

The citizens' initiative, which repeatedly refers to the signatures of 650 supporters, sees such an approach as counterproductive.

“Instead of trying to optimize the selected Limone route, you are asking for a route re-evaluation and a change in the selection criteria because your desired route does not meet the requirements of these criteria.

This delays the process, unsettles people and divides the community," the letter said.

Under no circumstances will it be accepted "that there should be a political route selection through subsequent adjustments to the catalog of criteria agreed with the region before the start of planning".

The 13 local councilors who categorically rejected "Limone" argued that a "new above-ground route that cuts through the landscape and uses up a lot of valuable space will not find local approval and will therefore delay the expansion of the route.

"Through sensible and optimized planning, the negative impact on people, the landscape and nature must be kept as low as possible," is her reasoning in the application to the municipal council.
