Many times in our daily lives halachic questions arise and topical doubts arise.

Rabbi Shai Tahan, head of the Sha'arei Ezra community and head of Beit Erzi HaLevanon, makes the laws accessible to us and answers questions asked in the Beit Midrash and outside of it.

And this time: should we say the blessing of reward for the 'Dawn' operation?

Question:

Hello, Your Honor.

In the last operation called 'Dawn' we experienced where we are incessant launches towards us from the Islamic Jihad, and by the grace of heaven they were all intercepted by the Iron Dome.

And here in the synagogue there was a debate between the worshipers as to whether we should say the blessing of the reward and we decided to ask the question to the rabbi to guide us on the true path.

Answer:

Hello and blessing.

The mercy of God did not end because His mercy did not run out, I was happy to hear that you got through everything safely.

In order to understand the halacha well, it is necessary to note the words of the halacha (Orah Siman Rit): "Four people must give thanks: those who go to sea when they come up from it, and those who walk through the desert when they arrive at the settlement, and those who were sick and were cured, and those who were bound in the prison and left.

" If at all the regulation of this Sage was only these four and no more, or perhaps one should bless every saving thing.

Indeed, our first rabbis shared this, Rabbi Shem Tov Falku wrote in the name of the additions that wherever the Sages used a number like here when they said 'four need to give thanks' they meant only four and no more, on the other hand the Rabbi wrote that these four were not mentioned only as examples only because they are found It is always in the way of the custom of the world, therefore one should bless every saving thing and not only these four (brought to Beit Yosef Siman Rit).

In Halacha, the Shulchan Aruch (C. Rit, section 9) brought the two opinions and decided on a kind of compromise to bless without mentioning a name and a kingdom, so that then he does not enter into the question of mentioning a name of heaven in a blessing that is not necessary.

Indeed, the Sephardim who follow the rulings of the Shulchan Aruch do so (see the words of the Rabbi Yosef in the vision of Ovadia, Berchot Amud Sha't), but the Ashkenazim used to bless in the name and kingdom according to the words of many of the later judges (Mishna Berura Sec. Lev).

However, it seems that all of this is only if the person's body is harmed by the harmful thing and by the grace of God he survives, however, if he was close to the harm but the harm did not harm him, he does not have to bless, this is clear from the words of many judges who divided between a person who had an accident and a survivor and a person who almost had an accident, although he was very close For that, since the car did not touch him, he has no blessing.

And here you have the words of Rabbi Nissim Karlitz (Hot 2, 18, Kovacs Mayen, letter 8): , and the car suddenly stopped next to him, and because of this he was saved, he does not have to bless the reward, and we were a person who was not considered to be in danger for the sake of the reward.

And it is true that if the car was damaged and he was saved, it is important that he was in the place of danger

. To give a natural and obvious explanation for his salvation, that the things were done by a conference from heaven, should be blessed every time he passes by the same place with the name and glory of "He did a miracle for me in this place". However, these things are not according to what is customary among mankind today to call every salvation by the name of a miracle, because there is no miracle but something that departs from the customs of the world As we explained.

That is why it is brought up that those launches that were answered by the interceptions of the Iron Dome, as miraculous as it is, but it is explained according to the way of nature and is not considered a conference, therefore we should not bless him with the blessing of a miracle, and we should not bless that we lived because in God the fragments of the missiles did not harm a person.

However, with this we will finish thanking the Creator For all the good he always does with us: Thank God for it is good because his grace is forever.
