Since the beginning of the summer, the images have been looping.
France is burning in every corner.
More than 42,000 hectares of forest have already gone up in smoke since June 10, according to the latest figures from Civil Security.
In all, since the beginning of the year, 56,000 hectares have been victims of fires, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (Effis).
That is more than five times the annual average between 2006 and 2021, established at 9,800 hectares.
If the fires continue to spread, the fatal records of 1976 (88,000 hectares) and 2003 (73,000) could be reached this year.
The huge fires of Landiras and La Teste-de-Buch, in Gironde, alone destroyed 20,000 hectares of forest between July 12 and 24.
During the day of Tuesday, the fire resumed there and 6200 hectares still went up in smoke.
About 10,000 people were evacuated from the communes of Hostens, Saint-Magne and the Belin-Béliet sectors.
