(CNN Spanish) -
The former president of Paraguay Fernando Lugo suffered a decompensation this Wednesday in his office of the National Congress and is hospitalized in an Asunción hospital in intensive care, with an induced coma and connected to a respirator.
The senator from Lugo's party, Frente Guasu, and his family doctor, Jorge Querey, detailed in a press conference with local media that Lugo suffered an ischemic stroke and is in intensive care in a private hospital, "with an induced coma and connected on a respirator."
The doctor explained that it is a blood vessel in the back of the brain that is blocked and the blood cannot reach that part of the brain, although he indicated that the injury is "relatively small."

Querey estimates that the episode of obstruction could have started during a flight that the senator also took a few days ago, after which he presented mild symptoms.
For the time being, the former president will undergo various studies to learn more about his state of health and say what type of treatment he will receive.
