Having one's own future predicted is appealing and at the same time frightening - at least that's the opinion of one journalist who has dared to try it on herself.

Schongau – I feel a little queasy when I slip into Tanja's enchanted little wooden house.

The "seer", as she praises a scroll at the historic market in Schongau, follows me into the tiny room and draws the curtain behind her.

I sit down on the bench in the corner and wait for the 53-year-old, who has a cloth wrapped around her brown forehead and is dressed in loose tie-dye clothing, to sit on the stool in front of me.

"Shuffle," she says, handing me the deck of cards.

A little awkwardly I comply with the request and try to mix up the cards as best I can.

"Take off," it says then.

As Tanja lays the first cards on the green tablecloth, I get more and more curious.

Or is it nervousness?

Anyway, I'm not relaxed.

The incense stick, which keeps emitting a waft of scent next to me, also fogs me up.

"Seerin" lays the cards on the historical market - she sees the past, present and future

"It's time to get out of the comfort zone," says Tanja.

Ah, so here we go, I think.

Only in the next moment do I realize that the seer is already talking about my life.

With every card she reveals, the fortune teller seems to put together a picture of me like a mosaic.

In the end there are 36 cards between us, neatly lined up in three groups.

I see colorful pictures, she sees my innermost being.

The cards on the left represent my past, Tanja explains.

The middle is the present and the little pictures on the right should reveal something about my future.

Contrary to what I expected, I find out very little about what's in store for me in the next few years.

Job, family, love: The cards say I have to change a lot

That's because I'm still too much in my past.

At least that's what the cards say.

"You can't move anything from the position," the seer explains to me.

She takes the card in the top left corner, which has a young woman on it, and says it's me.

In order to advance, I have to move from the left row to the middle row of cards - the present.

But that's only possible when I get out of my "passivity".

And to do that, I have to start making decisions.

Hm, I think, I'm actually not that good at making decisions.

Tanja also sees that I have a lot of changes coming up.

Above all professionally: a new apprenticeship or further training, maybe even a completely new job.

Funny, after all I've only been working in my current job for almost a year.

And actually I didn't intend to change it any time soon.

In any case, the maps reveal something of upheavals.

And I'm supposed to initiate this myself, very actively and very soon.

There is also something in the cards about my family situation.

"You have to leave the nest," reads Tanja in the pictures.

In order to find my way, I should leave the tried and tested, the safe behind me.

Just out of the comfort zone.

I thought that I had long since left the nest.

A little thrown off track after visiting the fortune teller

The stagnation that, according to the cards, runs through my current life, does not stop when it comes to love.

Of course not.

But it's not my fault alone, it's also a bit of a man's fault.

He's stuck with me in the left-hand pile of the past, says Tanja.

She advises me to leave him behind.

After almost ten minutes, the cards are finally read.

I thank the seer, who honestly threw me off track.

It was my first time in fortune telling.

If I had known that I would have to shake up so much now, I might have stayed at home.
